I never knew we were saying goodbye.
Cameras have two very important purposes in my life. They are used to capture something, or to communicate something. I'll never forget the day I got my first real camera, and captured something that I'll never forget. It was a Canon T3i. I bought it with the intention of starting to do my own videography and photography work on the side. I had spent countless nights reading and watching tutorials, but never had an actual camera to apply what I was learning. The day came when I was finally able to purchase my own camera, and it just happened to be on a day that we were visiting my wife's parent's house as well. The family dog, Kacee, had always been one of my favorite dogs I had ever known. She was incredibly playful, sweet, and you could always see so much through her facial expressions. As I was taking my camera out of the box on the way there, I had already decided that I was going to practice shooting video with Kacee to figure out how to use my camera, and if I was lucky enough maybe even capture some special moments with Kacee too. It was such a special time. My youngest son would come running into the shot, half naked, and just so happy to be close to her. Little did we know it would be the last time that either of us would get to see her. Kacee's health deteriorated so quickly that she had to be put to sleep before we ever got a chance to see her again. I'm incredibly thankful that we got my practice footage of Kacee in her final days. I pieced it together and made a video for our family just to help us say goodbye.
Testing out my GoPro Hero 3 Silver Edition with Dolphins and Manta Rays
So my lovely wife and I had an amazing trip to Hawaii last summer. Naturally, I used this as an excuse to buy a GoPro Hero 3 Silver Edition camera. I chose the silver edition because it actually gave me all the specs I needed for my professional videography work, and it didn't break the bank quite as much as the black edition. Long story short, I think I made a great choice. I love being able to control the camera with my iPhone, having 24p available, Protune mode, and the flexibility of being able to use it anywhere. Below is a compilation of some shots from our trip to Hawaii. It's mostly underwater shots of me swimming as fast as I can to keep up with Spinner Dolphins, and night snorkeling with the Manta Rays. Truly an unbelievable experience. Hope you all enjoy!
Photos of Jason Aldean's drummer, Rich Redmond
I had the privilege of spending some time with Jason Aldean's drummer Rich Redmond this year. I was shooting a "Gearing-Up" video for Modern Drummer Magazine, which can be seen here. While I was shooting the video I also had the chance to take a some pictures too. As always, Rich was a blast to work with. For more info on Rich, you can check out his website RichRedmond.com.
